Rock the Block

Notice the ears on this design that framers can adjust for different spacing requirements.

Shear blocking is an effective way to provide lateral support at raised heel truss ends and transfer shear forces to the foundation of a building. In fact, in many cases it is required by both the 2018 IBC and IRC codes. Component manufacturers (CMs) are in a perfect position to save framers, GCs, and (ultimately) project owners time, money, and labor through more efficient solutions. Rather than taking time to build blocking panels on the jobsite, framers can simply set these componentized pieces into place. Componentized shear panels can be manufactured with precision to a specific width and height with tolerances built in to adjust for imperfections in the field.
